Gini Proulx
Gini Proulx grew up in rural Annapolis County, Nova Scotia, where she developed a keen love and respect for the natural world. Mostly self-taught through an ever-expanding personal nature library, hundreds of hours in the field and membership in a number of nature-oriented organizations, she has become recognized as an authority on local plant life. She has been credited with the discovery of several rare and endangered plants in Digby and Annapolis counties.
For over 20 years, Gini has been happy to share her enthusiasm for the natural world through field trips, research projects, trail development, plant identification, slide presentations and lectures. She participates regularly in bird counts and has been active in the preservation of rare plant habitats and wilderness in southwestern Nova Scotia.
A former 4-H leader and librarian, Gini has hosted a phone-in "Plant Talk" show on local CKDY radio and was a regular correspondent for CBC? (Halifax) Radio Information Morning.
Gini has been an instructor for NSOLD (Nova Scotia Outdoor Leadership Development Program) and has led nature tours for visiting Elderhostel courses. She has led countless nature hikes for local groups and tourists. In 1997, she joined RAVEN Interpretive Wildlife Programs and continues to make presentations on Nova Scotia ecology.
Gini has received a number of awards acknowledging her contributions including the (first ever) Nova Scotia Bay of Fundy Environmental Award, presented in 2003 by the N.S. Dept. Of Environment and Labor.
Widowed in 2001, Gini lives in Deep Brook, NS where her Pinkney ancestors settled in the 1760's.
